Health Equity & Community Wellness

The Challenge Facing Our Community

Access to health care and preventive services remains uneven across Denver. Cost, location, and availability continue to limit care for many residents, particularly in underserved neighborhoods.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, communities of color in Colorado experience higher rates of chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, often linked to reduced access to preventive care and wellness resources.

When health needs go unmet, families face increased medical costs, missed work or school, and long-term health complications. These challenges strain households and community systems alike, increasing demand for emergency care and social services.

Who Is Most Affected

Low-income families, seniors, and communities of color are disproportionately affected by health access gaps. Structural barriers, including transportation, affordability, and limited local services, make consistent care difficult.
